Whirlpool inline filter system worries?

I installed an inline filter system on my fridge about a week ago and it runs fine but the first couple of days it started making black ice and water with black dye like substance in it but after a week of it making ice (me dumping out the black ice) it has cleared up but im too scared to try it, what was it that came out of the filter?

The black that you see is carbon/charcoal used to make the water smell and taste good.

Discard the first ice harvest cycles until the cubes and water from the dispenser are clear.
