Bottom Oven Bake Element not working?
We have a 1.5 year old GE Electric Range/Oven. We noticed the temperature was not reaching over 300 degrees. It appears the top Heating Element/Broil is working but not the bottom one. I tried flipping the circut breaker but that didn't help.
Is it possible that I'd need to replace a heating element after only over 1 year of use? If so, is this easy to do?
A Range Element should last for 10-20 years. Early failure might be due to incorrect installation or damage in use.
GE has one of the best websites for appliances. Use the first link to find model-specific information.
The second link gives instructions on testing and replacing a stove element. If it is a fuse, then check the connections and wiring carefully. Fuses are safety features, and fail to prevent damage or hazard. If you don't feel confident about what you're seeing, it's better to have a professional. Check with your gas and electric companies, they may have an appliance repair program that makes sense and covers all your appliances for a yearly fee.
If you have to replace it, take the old one with you when you buy the replacment, and compare them before you leave the store.
If you do it yourself, look up the instuctions for removing the Oven Door. It only takes a few seconds, and it really saves the back.
