How does a Wifi Range Extender work?
I'm considering buying this range extender:

I was just wondering, do you hook it to a pc and it boosts all the signals it can find or does it have to be configured to specific router? Also, can it only be set up for one computer or does it simply boost the signal(s) for all computers that are in range to connect? Thanks!

there are two types of extenders, first, a little background. A signal weakens because it isn't very strong, and it starts getting dirty (like snow on a tv, if you will), interference, noise. One type of extender will take the signal, and just amplify it, noise and all, and the other will take the dirty signal, read it, and send out a completely new (clone) of the signal, free of noise. The second one is slower, but works better, the first one is faster, but you still have a dirty signal. Both of them will extend your network, no matter what.
