Does anyone know an effective way to recapture the greywater from my portable Dishwasher and Clothes Washer?
We have an extensive garden, is recaptured water safe to use on plants?
A similar question elsewhere in this category made me question whether this is such a good idea. The residue from the dishwasher and laundry soap will soak down and reach the watertable. Greywater is meant to be drained into the sanitary sewer for treatment and re-use.
If you want to recapture water more safely, invest in rain barrels. I have two barrels, one on either side of my garage because the downspouts don't drain properly and the garage will flood in a heavy rain. The rain barrels sit against the downspouts and a diverter pours the rainwater from the gutter into the barrels. I can collect 120 gallons of water in one heavy rain. I then dip a bucket in the barrel for watering plants.
