Pistol Range Bag
Traveling in Texas with a pistol in my car?

When I go to the Shooting Range, I have a pelican case (which I use for my range bag) that holds my unloaded Springfield XD9, boxes of ammo, glasses, earmuffs, and tools.

Is that legal to have in the trunk of my car if i'm traveling to the range and back? It's got a lock on the pelican case, and it stays locked until I get to the range.

Lately, I've been hearing that the pistol needs to be in one box, and the ammo kept seperate in another box.

I don't have a concealed weapons license, so I just want to make sure I'm in the right.

Also, would it be okay to take it traveling with me? For instance, when I go visit family out of town, I keep it in the back of the trunk. Most of my family has guns, so we go shooting whenever we can.

Looking for advice. Thank You!

We do live in a some what free state.
1 - Your car is part of you castle
2 - Your Castle is your home
3 - You have the right to carry your firearm in your home (min on my hip now)
4 - You can carry it loaded in your car as lon as it is concealed
5 - They removed the "while traveling" requirement as they never defined traveling.

If you have it in your car either in the case or tucked into the seat
and you get stopped just do the smart thing, pull over and keep your hands on the wheel, tell the officer where your ID is and then tell them "I have a xxx in the car and it is located xxx"

My phrase is.

My CHL is xxx and my sidearm is xxx

prior to getting my CHL it was

I don't have a CHL however i do have a sidearm located in the xxx

Never got in trouble even in Houston
