Could you use a newspaper armature for Sculpey Oven Bake Clay?
I know that it's common to use an armature made out of foil and some wire...but newspaper is so much cheaper and easier to work with. Would the newspaper just burn and ruin the polymer clay or does the oven not get that hot when baking the clay? Also, the newspaper would be easy to remove...but do you have to remove an armature anyways? Does anyone have any experience with this?
An armature usually stays in the model as a sort of skeleton. The oven does get hot enough to burn newspaper, and believe me, it doesn't smell pretty when paper is cooking in the oven.
A roll of aluminum foil and a roll of wire will really go a long way and aren't very expensive. You can go to Wal-Mart with $5 and get them both. Foil near the grocery side of the store and wire in the hardware section.
Bend the wire into the basic skeletal shape that you need, cover the thicker parts with foil, then cover the entire piece with clay, and then bake.
Hope this helps. I tried to cover everything.
