How are kitchen wall cupboards attached to the wall and how much weight will they hold?
I've never had wall cupboards before. They only seem to be attached at the top two corners and I'm a bit wary about what to store in them.
Professionally made cupboards are held with screws that go two inches into the wall. More expensive ones have a steel bracket that fixes to the wall and the cupboard is bolted to the bracket. The way the cupboard is made means that most of the weight is supported by the bottom of the cupboard pressing against the wall. Provided that the screws are firmly anchored in correctly fitting plugs, the cupboard will safely support a hundredweight (50kg) per screw. So a cupboard supported by two screws can take 100kg - that's an awful lot of groceries. Of course there's always the risk that the wall is not strong enough...
