Installing an Ice Maker Kit Properly?
I bought an ice maker kit which came with a saddle valve, fittings, and plastic tubing but I don't see how I can install it correctly. I live in a mobile home and under the sink are two pvc pipes with shutoffs for cold and hot water. On top of the shutoffs are flexible replaceable tubing leading to the faucets. I didn't want to damage the main cold water pvc line so I tried to pierce the flexible tubing that connected to the faucet with the saddle valve instead but that didn't turn out well. It wasn't solid enough to keep from leaking and the water pressure to the ice maker wasn't very strong. After replacing that line I'm reluctant to cause a permanent hole in the main water line. Is there a fitting that can go between the faucet and main water line w/o piercing the line? Thank you.
I wouldn't mess with the "pvc" because in a mobile they use the flexible pvc that is installed with clamps. Dealing with that requires the proper tools.
I think you can get a fitting that attaches to the output faucet under the sink and both lines can be connected to it. I can't say how much water you will get out of that but it "should" be okay. Yes the saddles don't work well on either of your lines because they are not stiff enough and the one to the faucet is too small.
Back when I was installing lines I wouldn't touch that type of piping.
