Strong Gas odor when I start my Gas Oven?
I have a gas oven (a viking-professional) and everytime I start it there is a very pungent smell of gas. Obviously it is escaping. My question is why? Is it a problem with the install or the oven? Is there a chance I can modify the level of gas that is used to start the oven.
Once it's at temp, or after the initial start up, there is no more gas smell. Any ideas?
Typically a small amount of gas will get out before the burner actually lights. I assume a newer Gas Stove with electronic spark ignition? This is normal. What is not normal is sometimes, very seldom, the appliance regulator on the back of the stove could be venting gas due to an internal failure. But when they fail, they typically vent gas all the time, but are designed to vent gas at a rate of 1 Cubic Foot an hour, which is just enough to make the problem noticable and not dangerouse. You would always smell gas if this where the case. If your really concerned get a gas contractor to check the stove.
