holding a yard sale vs donating for a writeoff...?
We'd like to sell a lot of stuff at a yard sale, i.e. washer/dryer combo, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, tons of books, tons of clothes...i could go on all day. Anyway, I've had some people suggest that we could instead donate, be done with it, and use it as a writeoff. Thing is, if we would go that route, we don't make much, and with our daughter we get back all or most of our taxes. Would it be better financially if we hold the yard sale? Or will we be able to get money back for the donation? and would it be worth it?
Start by holding the yard sale. Then donate whatever does not sell at the yard sale.
