Should I Replacing Electric Stove or have it repaired?
I have a Freestanding Electric range that is only two years old. The other night I was turning the oven on and it started to go wacky. The electrical wires in the back where crackling and then all the sudden there was a flame of fire behind the stove and I turned it off. Now the over will not work but the burners work. What does this cost to fix? I don't want to spend a lot then be told I need a new one. Thanks for any help.
The warranty expired after a year. I called them and they said there was no recalls.
The fact that there was a fire involved is very disturbing.
Check the warranty like the others advised and also check to see if your stove was recalled. The fact that is started to smoke is very disturbing that I would report it to the manufacturer. You might try to move your stove and see where it caught fire and take photos of it to back up your case.
Because fire was involved, I would not attempt to repair it myself and this might be the best time to call an expert. Some repair places might offer free estimates, but be sure to ask about all fees up front.
If the cost of repair is more than the cost of buying a new one, well you know what your answer is.
