Wiring in new range- 3 wires in house, 4 on outlet. Help!?
I am having my new range delivered tomorrow afternoon. I had a slide-in electric range previously and it was hard wired in. I was told that the new range will need a 4-prong outlet. I went and bought a 4 prong outlet and becan looking at how to wire it in. My house has a 3-wire 220v source. I have a 4 wire plug and apparently my new range will be sent with a 4-wire plug.
What do I do? I am not going to re-wire my house. I need to know how to connect the 3 wires in the 4 wire outlet.
Black-hot, black/red-hot, bare copper-ground.
No Neutral.
You'll have to get a new 220 line ran if you want it done right. A lot of dryers and stoves require 4 wire. Your neutral wire is grounded but the bare ground is a fail safe. Dependind on the amperage you'll need 8-3 or 6-3 w/ground.
