Electric Dryer Heating element is broke. Can I weld the element back together instead of buying a new element?

My dryer was not heating because the element broke or burned out. I took the dryer apart and found two spots in the element that it broke. Can I fuse the element back together or use a small clamp or weld or anything to make it work again? I am a cheapass, I know but I would like to fix it without buying a new element. Let me know if it is possible, how to best do the connection, and/or if it is completely dangerous or fire hazard, or what your experience is with trying to repair heating elements.
A new part cost just over $100

not a good Idea . the element was made so that there will be an even distribution of heat. If you wer able to fuse it back together it would create a hot spot and only work temporary anyway.

If you would like to continue your frugalness, then go to a scrap yard and look for one that you can remove the element and use.

If the element is made from tungsten wire and you were able to find the right guage , you could restring it.
