Refrigerator Door opens and bangs on cabinets?
I have a GE TFX27PR side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer. When I open the Freezer Door it remains in a "semi-open" position with what appears to be a stop. When the refrigerator door is opened, it continues the swing until it hits the cabinets. Can this door be returned to its original state and work like the freezer door?
Look at the two hinges... on that door.
you should see a plastic ring that is shaped like a "w". In other words it has notches in them.
When you open the door, the notch rotates and slips into another notch. This holds the door open and it also keeps it shut when you close the door. When the notches or the plastic ring breaks, there is nothing to hold it open or keep it shut.
You can get these at any appliance store. Usually they come in pairs. Just take the door off by removing the screws at the top of the hinge ( be sure to have someone hold the door so it doesn't fall over).
take the door off and replace those rings with the notches ( usually at the bottom). Then put the door back on and put the screws in at the top.
