Should I have had a chimney liner installed?
I had an old furnace and had a new high-efficiency (natural gas) furnace installed. The water heater was moved to be close to the chimney and is still vented out the chimney.
What is the purpose of a chimney liner and should i have one if I don't? I live in southern Ont., Canada in a house about 40 years old (bungalow with the water heater in basement).
Yes, that is how the furnace is vented. thx
and no furnace or cracks.
A chimney liner is used when there are cracks in your chimney that would let fumes etc. vent into your house. Unless you have a fireplace, you probably don't need one. The gas water heater should be fine. I am guessing your new high efficiency gas furnace is vented outside with plastic pipe.
