Storing Wine Properly?
I have just received a white bordeaux wine. I would like to let it age for a couple of years. I don't have any special wine cellars or refrigerators so i'm using my normal Fridge. I have also let it on its side so the cork is moist.
My question: is it ok for it to be in a normal refrigerator like that? (It is at 43 degrees F). Also will the low humidity really affect it? Also there is an air bubble in the Wine Bottle, is that normal or is that bad?
If you don't have a Wine Cellar, you should ideally store it in a cool place where it will not dry out. You probably want to store it horizontally. I have been told that it is better to err on the cooler side than the warmer side.
I heard a story from a professor who also teaches wine that his friend did an experiment where he carried around a bottle of wine in his truck in CA, and that was still perfectly fine.
I have stored a robust (rich in oak) chardonnay in my fridge and just didn't get around to drinking it for a couple of years, and it was okay.
So I would say it's probably not ideal but fine if you don't want to invest in a cellar.
