burnt on stain on cooktop?
I just got a new stove with a large Gas Burner. The area around the large burner has a stain that I can't get off. It seems to have burnt into the porcelain. Any suggestions?
At our house we just use Oven Cleaner. However most people say this does not work good. The trick is you need to apply the oven cleaner to the stain when it is hot. This is very smelly doing this so don't breath while your spraying the cleaner. It is fast to do maybe two seconds is all you need to hold your breath. I would also have your vent fan on before spraying too. Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes and it will dry up and the area will be cooler now apply a second coat as you would in the oven and let sit per the directions on the can or even over night is fine.
The reason for spraying it directly on the hot surface after cooking is your are doing something called de-glazing as you would in a pot to make a sauce. However instead of smelling good it will smell like chemicals.
Remember you do not want it red hot just hot is fine and you don't want the cleaner to burn off and turn in to steam as your spraying. I would say want a few minutes after cooking remove the grill and the burner with dry pot holder and then test it with the cleaner and if it sizzles it is still to hot so you will need to wait a few more minutes.
I would not put water on a hot stove as the porcelain may chip off or crack. Do not what ever you do scrape it with a metal tool or the porcelain will scratch and then you will always have scratch marks that you will never get rid of. So it the burned stuff does not come off the first time use the oven cleaner again until it is removed.
Now days oven cleaners are really safe to use such as "easy off" and they smell good now. So you can use it on your stove on a weekly basis or as needed.
So have a good time and make sure the stove is hot but not to hot and just wipe it off with a sponge and dry with a rag. To not to use the scrubby things or the steel wool pads. Think of your porcelain like a window. If your cleaning tool scratches your window it will scratch your Stove Top.
